    1. @thevoid99: Thanks for mentioning How To Destroy Angels, I decided to give it a listen on your suggestion. On the Wing & Ice Age are my favorites from that EP.

  2. I wasn't a big fan of her new album, but it's great to see Melody Gardot's "Mira" on here. Also love the mentions of Air, Fiona Apple, Adele, Bob Dylan, and Goldfrapp, among others.

Will definitely be checking more of these tracks out. :)

  3. @Josh: Mira was definitely the highlight for me on a decent, but fairly unmemorable album by Melody Gardot. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Goldfrapp's album!

Enjoy the tracks, that's why I shared them here ( :

  4. I love the Regina Spektor track. And Neil Young is pretty much..Neil Young. Nice music reference. Thanks for posting this, Chris!

  5. I'm not usually a country fan but that First Aid Kit track is pretty amazing. Especially for a couple of girls from Stockholm.

Also just discovered Jessie Ware, and she has been hijacking my playlist a lot lately.

Nice to see Chocolate in the honorable mentions, hilarious track. and good to see a late addition of Pepe Deluxe too.

Here are a few tracks in my year end mix I think you might like:

    Rhye - The Fall
    Kishi Bashi - Manchester
Mieka Pauley - I Haven't Even Started With You
    Nick Waterhouse - Raina

  6. @Bonjour Tristesse: Emmylou by First Aid Kit is a great song, I read that it's a homage to their heroes Emmylou Harris, her duet partner Gram Parsons, and June Carter and Johnny Cash. The rest of the album is decent enough, but didn't blow me away as that track did.

Jessie Ware's music is catchy. Wildest Moments I considered for the list.

Enjoyed the Pepe Deluxe tune, unique atmosphere on that album

Thanks for the track suggestions, will give them a listen soon.

  7. Lots of great acts on this list. I'm not a great person with song titles, so it's hard for me to remember which one they are in some cases. It's interesting that you list "Rocky Ground" as the pick off the new Springsteen album. I think that's an interesting track and differs from his usual approach, but it's behind some others for me. Wrecking Ball, Shackled and Drawn, and Death to My Hometown are the standout tracks from the album for me.

It's also cool to see Beach House, Fiona Apple, Sharon Van Etten, The Mountain Goats, and many others on there.

    1. @Dan: Thanks for the comment. I usually go for the quieter tracks in general, so that probably explains why "Rocky Ground" & "Jack Of All Trades" are my favorites from Springsteen's latest.

For rock enthusiasts like yourself, I can certainly see the appeal, especially at a live concert venue, and maybe those mentions will grow on me, and I'll add one or two to the honorable mentions. It's just those loud electric guitars and big sound makes my ears ring with headphones.

If you like Mountain Goats, that re-release of the old basement recordings The Hound Chronicles / Hot Garden Stomp was a fun listen. I hadn't heard those before.

  8. WOW. That must have taken a long time to compile the Spotify playlist and then add YouTube/Soundcloud links as well. Kudos to you for doing that!

Haven't heard a lot of these, but I'm going to bookmark your list and give it a listen this week. Thanks for putting it together, Chris.

    1. @Eric: Have fun with the playlist! Yes, I put a lot of hours into listening and linking.
I also went through a number of other year-end music lists, which was enjoyable, and provided me with gems to add to my list.

Even though are tastes are not quite the same, I hope that you stumble upon a few individual tracks here you love.

  9. Oh man, brilliant list here. Ever since you turned me onto St. Lucia, I've been rocking out to We Got It Wrong ceaselessly, so thanks for that!

Five Seconds and Paradise are great tracks as well. Gonna have to give much of the rest a thorough listen!

  10. @Alex Withrow: Thank You! We agree on that EP, it also made my top albums list.

Enjoy the music. Hopefully there is something for everyone on the list.

  11. That's an awesome list. Grimes, Chromatics, Melua, Beach House, Hot Chip, DIIV... We have pretty similar tastes. So many good names. I'dd add Affection by Crystal Castles. Flunk (do you know them?) released their best of in 2012 so maybe it cannot count but there were many awesome songs there.

    1. @indiescifi451: Glad you liked the list! If you mean the Norwegian band Flunk, then I haven’t listened to them. Based on a couple of tracks I heard just now, seems a bit similar to Björk

    2. Try "On My Balcony", "Cigarette Burns" and New Order's cover "True Faith". Well I'd say they remind me more of Chromatics... Curious to know what youl'll say!

Question - basing on these lists from 2000 till 2017, which are your top albums? But don't mention the artists I mentioned in the previous post 😅

    3. @indiescifi45: Thanks for the song suggestions! I gave those three you shared a try. Flunk are probably too low-key for my taste, but I quite like the vocal.

haha, it would be a LONG comment if I had to list ALL those top albums : ) Instead, I can direct you towards my yearly top 10 albums (1962-2017) page. The #1 for each year should answer your question. Hope you find something interesting! Let me know if you have any thoughts on the top 10s. http://moviesandsongs365.blogspot.com/2010/04/music.html

  12. Yes, thanks, because in last 2 years I didn't follow the scene so much by albums (a thing I've always considered important), rather by songs due to lack of time....

    1. @indiescifi451: Not a great era for albums right now (only two I consider great in 2017 by The War on Drugs and King Krule), so you chose wisely to focus on songs.
I created a YouTube playlist of the best songs of the decade so far(2010-2014). I divided it into two, the big radio songs, and lesser known ones that are important to me. If there’s a lack of time for albums, that playlist might be more manageable:
