  1. Not at all familiar with Randy Crawford. At least I don't think. I'll have to listen to some of her to know for sure.

Patti LaBelle has always been a confounding artist to me. Her voice is just off the charts great. I don't think it's at all an overstatement to say she has one of the greatest singing voices in the history of recorded music. On the other hand, despite decades of work from her, there aren't that many songs of hers that I love. Pretty sure I can count them on one (less than) hand, and one of those is a cover (her rendition of Somewhere Over the Raibow). It's created this weird dichotomy where listening to her sing sends chills down people's spines, but most of these same people would be pressed to come up with much beyond Lady Marmalade as far as music original to her. Case in point, I know I've heard this particular album, but damn if I remember any of it.

    1. @Wendell: Randy Crawford track I know because of the cover version from Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge.
I think of Patti Labelle as the female singer on the Beverly hills Cop and Licence to Kill soundtracks, but obviously she’s done other things, and the track I shared ”Release” feels very underrated. I hadn't really thought about her singing voice, I'll keep that in mind.
I’ll check out the Somewhere Over The Rainbow cover you refer to. I remember Lady Marmalade-again because of the Moulin Rouge cover version. Thanks for the comment

  2. I love 80's music, but I've heard none of these. I'll have to give them a spin.

    1. @Josh: Hope you like them! "One Day I'll Fly Away" is probably the most famous of these tracks
