Which are your favorite soundtracks of 2014? Agree or disagree? Did I miss anything great? As always, comments are welcome. Next, I will share my top 10 non-soundtrack albums of 2014. Stay tuned!
Nice list! My favorites are the one from American Hustle, Guardians of the Galaxy and Gone Girl with the track Technically Missing which I really like. I am also fond of the one from Under The Skin but that one it's not that enjoyable just very well made.
ReplyDeleteYou selected most of the OST that caught my attention. I still haven't seen some of the films on the list like Mommy, Inherent Vice and Pride which I heard were very good.
@Cristi B: Thanks, I agree Technically Missing is good too. Under The Skin I decided to not include in the top 10, I feel a similar way to you, unique and admirable, just Gone Girl I would play more often.
DeleteI see you've been busy with year-end lists! So I'll stop by your site soon
Love these picks! Some great mix of songs and score here.
ReplyDelete@Fisti: Thank you! Only I wish I had waited a week or so because I just discovered mojo magazine's top 10 soundtracks of 2014 (in Jan 2015 edition) and I had only listened to 2-3 of them /:
DeleteAwesome to see Gone Girl here! I'm not very into compilations albums but Guardians' OST was amazing
ReplyDelete@Sati: Film scores can be good, I think I prefer compilation soundtracks, just because I love uncovering gems from the past!
DeleteGone Girl is my favorite of the bunch as I also love the Guardians soundtrack as my mom loves the songs from that film even though neither of us had seen it.
ReplyDelete@thevoid99: Great when a soundtrack can appeal to different generations, the 70s compilation is my favorite thing about Guardians of the G. And you’re right, the soundtrack even works without the movie.
DeleteGreat to see Gone Girl, Pride and Boyhood on here. Think my fave was probably Interstellar.
ReplyDelete@Pete Turner: I think I heard about Pride from your top 100 at letterboxd, so thanks for that! The main theme is the music from Interstellar that got stuck in my head
DeleteGlad to see Guardians of the Galaxy so high on your list :) Interstellar is a score I've been listening to constantly...one of the best accomplishments of that film.
ReplyDelete@onthescreenreviews: Guardians of The G is an awesome compilation! Agree Hans Zimmer did a fine job with Interstellar soundtrack, which for me helped give the space adventure an epic feel
DeleteGreat stuff here Chris! Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely awesome, nice to see Begin Again & Gone Girl which are both excellent. I actually have a penchant for more classically-tinged scores, so naturally Belle makes my list. LOVE that Beyond the Lights got a mention too, yay!
ReplyDelete@Ruth: Good to know we agree on some of those! Belle I haven’t listened to, I’ll give it a try.
DeleteThanks to you, Beyond The Lights managed to get a mention on the list :)
Brilliant picks! I especially love the Begin Again, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Palo Alto soundtracks. Also thrilled that you mentioned the Cold in July soundtrack. Just watched the film recently, and it's probably going to be my Original Score winner.
ReplyDelete@Josh: Glad you liked the picks! Palo Alto album is quite haunting, and I think the music fits well with the mood of the film(which I've watched). Cold in July, I might want to see it for the soundtrack.
DeleteCan't wait to see Inherent Vice, and it's great that it made your list of best soundtracks. PTA has always had a knack for playing the right songs at the right times. "Vitamin C" is an amazing track, too.
ReplyDeleteEric @ The Warning Sign: Magnolia is one of my favorites soundtracks, I couldn't imagine the film without it.
DeleteVitamin C is a great track, which I had not encountered before. Can’t wait to see Inherent Vice, although I’ve heard his latest is divisive
