  1. Nice :) I'll bookmark this for music references. I love Vampire Weekend's Step too. And Oblivion soundtrack. Nice you include Young & Beautiful. Funny, everytime I hear it, I imagined it played in Oscar night with echo (because it receives an award, maybe).

    1. @Andina: Thanks, Hope you enjoy the tracks :) I didn't love the rest of the Oblivion soundtrack, but I sure do love that Susanne Sundfør track. Maybe Young & Beautiful will have a chance at an Oscar, it has that epic feel, we'll see!

  2. I haven't heard nearly enough of these. I do have the albums by The National and Camera Obscura at home but haven't listened yet. Here are the only two songs I've heard so far, which is sad:

Kurt Vile - Was All Talk
I've had his first album for a long time, and it took listening to this one to push me to listen to that one more. He's pretty great. I love the last few minutes of this song.

    Vampire Weekend - Step
I really like this new album and think it's more interesting musically. Step is definitely one of the best examples of their evolution. It's one of the standouts from Modern Vampires.

    1. @Dan Heaton: Been a strong first half of 2013, lots of albums that impressed me. So plenty of good stuff to explore.

I prefer Kurt Vile's 2011 album Smoke Ring for My Halo, though his 2013 effort has grown on me and has some solid tunes too. I'll give the last few minutes of Was All Talk a re-listen!

I haven't gone back to Modern Vampires since I first heard it, I like the singles from it, especially Step.

  3. That's a good list. Glad you have NIN, QOSTA, Bowie, and MBV is in that list. Especially "If I Had A Tail" which is my 2nd favorite song in the album.

  4. YAY, glad to see Young and Beautiful on your list! That David Bowie one is a cool music video. I quite like the Oblivion song too, though my fave sci-fi soundtrack this year is definitely Pacific Rim!

    1. @Ruth: Glad we agree on Young and Beautiful, a haunting song, and I don't see it moving out of my top 10 tracks of the year.

Thanks for the suggestion, I usually prefer compilation soundtracks, but I might give the score to Pacific Rim a listen.

  5. Love seeing those Daft Punk, M83 and Bowie tracks in the top 10. I'm not a big fan of Lana Del Rey's music, but "Young and Beautiful" is a great song. Nice list Chris.

    1. @Josh: Thanks, there's lots to enjoy from the first 6 months of 2013, so I've listened to quite a few new albums. Lana Del Rey's song is beautiful.

  6. I'm a sucker for "Blurred Lines", too. :)

That Vampire Weekend track is catchy. I'm not a huge fan of them, but their new album is pretty enjoyable.

Will have to give these a listen. I *really* need to dig into that Nick Cave record.

    1. @Eric @ The Warning Sign: Blurred Lines is really catchy, even if they copied MJ, with that sudden exclamation of oooh :)

Didn't care for Vampire Weekend album, except the singles.

Love that Nick Cave album, his most accessible work in a while.

  7. Camera Obscura is one of my favorite bands. Luckily got to see them live last month. I agree with Fifth in Line to the Throne. Beautiful track, and when she sings it, it looks like she's barely holding back tears on stage.

    1. @Bonjour Tristesse: wow, that must have been powerful to see her barely holding back the tears on stage. To me the song Fifth in Line to the Throne sounds like something that could have been on the album Beautiful Garbage (2001), reminds me a bit of the track Drive You Home.
