For me, it was just too repetitive, with women talking about rape and such, and the filmmakers banging me over the head repeatedly about the cover ups. The Berkeley documentary definitely takes its time, and not in a good way, it was pretty tedious, and should have cut an hour out at least. The War Game shook me to the core, very chilling. Thanks for readingChrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-77772035329592334342015-09-16T06:39:47.713-07:002015-09-16T06:39:47.713-07:00I saw The War Game as part of doing the 1,001 Movi...I saw The War Game as part of doing the 1,001 Movies list. In the early 1980s, during the height of the Reagan/Brezhnev saber rattling there was an American TV film titled The Day After that went much further than The War Game in depicting the horrors of a nuclear war. It was such an event that the other TV networks essentially came out and recommended their viewers watch it, too, instead of what was on their own network. It was a nationwide event. The main editors of the 1,001 Movies books are British so we sometimes end up with things like this where an obscure British TV episode makes the list when a much better known and impactful movie does not.

That's not to say The War Game is bad. Far from it. It's just that there was a similar movie that had a far larger impact. It's like 12 Years a Slave and Roots. The latter was a true event and had a huge, lasting impact. 12 Years a Slave is a moving film, but is a pale copy of Roots.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-82334825113094116602015-09-16T06:20:44.926-07:002015-09-16T06:20:44.926-07:00I have seen Bully and The Invisible War. For the latter, I thought it was extremely powerful and I didn't need to be told there are good soldiers out there. I served myself, but even if I hadn't I get that in mainstream media all day, every day. What I did want was the one thing the doc tried, but couldn't really provide. I needed some of the military's higher ups to speak about (defend?) some of their practices and policies. Of course, none would go on camera doing so.

Of the others, I'm really intrigued by God Loves Uganda and The War Game, which sounds like 80s TV movie The Day After. I wouldn't mind seeing the others except that Berkeley one. That just sounds all sorts of pretentious. Great post.
Dellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05634519605152190304noreply@blogger.com
