Yep, the Shining is supposed to be among Stephen’s King’s best. I’d like to read that one too.
Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-29239812149682829572016-03-17T03:30:57.060-07:002016-03-17T03:30:57.060-07:00On the Road and Hunger are still on my to-read lis...On the Road and Hunger are still on my to-read list. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that you're familiar with Jorge Luis Borges. I can't say I've run into too many people who are. I actually had to read "Ficciones" in high school back in Venezuela.
Even though I've seen both Carrie films (original and remake) and I've read several other works by Stephen King, I've actually never read his debut novel. It's in my long bucket list, but glad you liked it. I do think his "angle" on bullying and enduring is still relevant and probably always will be, even when Carrie's ultimate revenge may end up sending the wrong message.
Maybe I should also write a post like this for the books I read in 2015. Thanks for sharing!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-71185536035896914432016-01-03T13:49:04.624-08:002016-01-03T13:49:04.624-08:00Great mini-reviews! Not sure This Book Will Make You Calm is the greatest self-help book, but it does contain things we can all get better and remind us of easy fixes which should be obvious. The book is part of a series of books actually.
I’ve seen praise for IT(the book), I was dissuaded due to the 1000+ pages. I watched the 1990 mini-series twice, the first part is my favorite whereas the reunion as adults I felt was weaker due to some poor performances.
Carrie is a great debut! I read a similar book from hypnotist Paul McKenna a few years back and he looked at the way we process our reactions to things and how we can be more confident, or finding a way to calm the nerves in certain situations, through considering that process and changing it.

Carrie is one of my favourite novels of all time. While I think King's IT is his epic achievement, it's small works like Misery and Carrie that I enjoy the most. Carrie was an incredible debut (I think).
