At the same time, I think the material being quite close to my own life helped me analyze Mike Leigh's characters for my review.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-73492886948199508882011-04-19T10:52:13.526-07:002011-04-19T10:52:13.526-07:00@ Burning Reels: Another Year really does seem to ...@ Burning Reels: Another Year really does seem to have split audiences (and bloggers I know of). The film has something to do with perception, you're on to something there. Do we behave how we wish others to see us. If we can marry an individual harmony with a community love, then I guess we've made it.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-14306401265511311312011-04-19T04:22:13.623-07:002011-04-19T04:22:13.623-07:00I love the different reactions this film creates -...I love the different reactions this film creates - I must admit i'm still not sure whether Tom and Gerri are so 'perfect' or open-minded but then again, it's all about perception, just like in real life. You might believe you are a certain way inclined but then somebody else may see it differently - who's right? Nobody I guess:)

Also the funeral scene was filmed where my Grandfather's funeral took place so that was a little surreal and makes it a little tricky to be completely objective about this film.Burning Reelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09240650652319642523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-37054390602516641742011-03-29T00:19:22.312-07:002011-03-29T00:19:22.312-07:00@ Andina : Yes, Tom and Gerri were interesting to ...@ Andina : Yes, Tom and Gerri were interesting to interpret. But it does feel very real.
Like you said there were a lot of questioning for me too about Tom and Gerri. they look perfect but often comforting their friends, do they enjoy being the 'perfect couple' to look up to? do they do things because they are generous or they do it because is what you suppose to do?Andinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02358695945559443985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-19375490986850115492011-03-09T00:23:42.755-08:002011-03-09T00:23:42.755-08:00Thanks, I'll check them out if I can find them...Thanks, I'll check them out if I can find them =)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17419133053285491979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-69118057246346026152011-03-08T04:43:56.913-08:002011-03-08T04:43:56.913-08:00@ Minoccio : If you want to try Mike Leigh, I'...@ Minoccio : If you want to try Mike Leigh, I'd start with argubly his best film Secrets & Lies (1996). I've just never 'got' him, and I've watched his films for nearly thirty years. I reckon it's because it's too close to home for me; his films are a pretty good reflection on English society, and if I needed that I could just walk out my front door. This was less toe-curling than some of his, though, so I at least made it to the end without wanting to throw something. (see Sally Hawkins in Happy-go-Lucky, David Thewlis in Naked or Jane Horrocks in Life Is Sweet for examples of the stuff I dislike most about Leigh). I appreciate that he's a good filmmaker, I just don't care for his stuff at all.Colinhttp://www.picknmixflix.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-58834426102204670492011-03-02T00:52:40.311-08:002011-03-02T00:52:40.311-08:00@Zoë Walker : Thanks, your comments are appreciate...@Zoë Walker : Thanks, your comments are appreciated.
