I think he knows everything about music, as a musician and also as a fan. He said:

Unknown Pleasures. From the start, its everything said and done. Almost. In the late 70's, the musical scene in England have a strange situation. The big chaos and mess by punk rock was in his late stages, and suddenly everything is calm again. The Political and economic situation was strange and unconfortable. In these environment, This amazing Lp was created.
In the Provinces, at least in Manchester, with the almost-grey weather, a bunch of guys just want create a sound that could identify them. Suddenly they found a guy that believe in his dreams and vision. And this guy (Tony Wilson) know another guy (Martin Hannett) that knows with bizarre paths start from the end and ends with a start. a new and brightly start, at least for these guys.
Undoubtely, Joy Division was one of the most importants bands in england at the time, with bad shows, crap sound and stuff, but truly, it was the sound of his souls.
Things don't be easy.
Martin Hannett at the controls, trying to create a parallel universe with guys with differents points of view.
Martin Hannett at the controls, playing a strange chess game with money of Factory Records.
Martin Hannett passing out at the controls, on smack and booze find his own private hell.
And always there's a B side.
Peter Hook playing a bas like a machine-gun without bullets but with guts, with little precision. Bernard Sumner (Or Bernard Albrecht) in and out of songs with a manic guitar. And the good Stephen Morris Trying to keep the time and rhythm with passion. And Ian. with his realistic Lyrics, internal problems, and his mind out of his body with a dangerous combination of prescribed drugs and booze. His Epileptic seizures and his high price to pay.
It was hard. In this context, this definitive document of time, rhythm and space was created. God Bless'em.
When ^Closer^Lp was released, in 1980, Ian was dead. He can't cope with all his problems. And his partners in crime simply start to walk, This time to USA, with a new name and a new concept. Contractuals problems solved, USA at last see this new band from England playing live, but all they know that part of the very soul was gone.
Things simply pass.
What a Fucking good record. A toast for this.Analíanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-17753480734244656292012-06-20T00:40:08.556-07:002012-06-20T00:40:08.556-07:00@Eric: Disorder is a cool track that I haven't...@Eric: Disorder is a cool track that I haven't even mentioned in my review...shame on me ( : Agree on She's Lost Control.

I would love to see the songs performed live. For example "Shadowplay", which is a song described in "1001 albums you must hear before you die" of urban decay, and Manchester in the late 70s.

Also, lets not forget most of the photos of the band are b/w, and so is the 2007 biopic with Sam Riley, which matches with this feeling of greyness and bleakness.
'She's Lost control' is probably my favorite from this album.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-83000460109209728902012-06-13T00:38:30.327-07:002012-06-13T00:38:30.327-07:00Fascinating quotes from the other band members. Didn't even know this song but it's clear to me how well Sam Riley nailed the performance in the film Control. Curtis' story is tragic, more so after reading what his band members say about him.ilovethatfilmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11882133059882238037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1619249406686227577.post-31818839618990911282012-06-12T14:42:09.429-07:002012-06-12T14:42:09.429-07:00@thevoid99: Indeed a very influential band having ...@thevoid99: Indeed a very influential band having reportedly inspired many contemporary acts such as Depeche Mode, U2, Nirvana, and Radiohead.

I love the rock direction Joy Division took with all the studio experiments with sound, and as you say visceral/emotional pieces of music is what makes them a memorable band too.

I hadn't heard that quote from Trent Reznor, thanks. While I much prefer Closer, this album is still one of the most visceral pieces of music that I heard. From those opening fills and Peter Hook's bass... I knew this was something different.

Trent Reznor said it best about why Joy Division were so important to music. They didn't know how to play their instruments but rather just find something through their emotions. "New Dawn Fades" is my favorite song from Unknown Pleasures.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
